They are more often seen on homes that are going for a Colonial or Mediterranean look. Tile shingles are one of the best options for visual appeal and can last for a long time (about 80 years). Tile shingles are more prone to leaking and cracking than some of the other types.
Wood
The price range for wood shingles ranges somewhere in between asphalt and tile. They are more environmentally friendly than the other types of roofing shingles and are also very durable, lasting between 30 and 50 years on average. The downside to wood shingles is that they are the most likely to catch on fire compared to other types. The installation process is also pretty complex, so it’s best to get a professional to take on that task.
Slate
Having a longer lifespan than the other types of roofing shingles, slate will last you anywhere from 80-100 years. This material has the best water and damage resistance which is beneficial for areas that are very cold or get a lot of precipitation. Color options are limited with slate, only coming in green, black, red, and grey. These roofing shingles can be pretty pricey and are expensive to repair. The material is also heavy so it isn’t suited for all homes.
