Summer is usually seen as home improvement season, but there’s plenty that you can still do in the fall. Milder temperatures mean it’s more pleasant to work outside, and there is a lot that can be done indoors on those fall rainy days as well. Happy fall!
Patch Up the Roof
Summer time can wreak havoc on your roof. The combination of high temperatures, blazing sun, humidity, strong storms, and more can really do some damage. Sometimes, this deadly combination of weather conditions causes holes to form. Now is the time to figure out if there are any areas that need to be patched and do so. Fall can be rainy and winter brings snow, so be sure your roof is taken care of now before it becomes a problem. If you’re looking at your roof and it’s already covered in a couple years’ worth of patches, it may be time to invest in a new roof. This way you ensure that your home will stay nice and warm this fall and winter.
Inspect Your Heating System
Early fall, while it is still somewhat warm during the day and cooler at night, is a great time to test your heating system. All you have to do is turn on the heat at night and see how effectively it warms your home. If entire rooms still feel cool, it’s time to call in a professional. Catching any issues now before they become major can save you quite a bit of money later.
Clean Out Your Gutters
Your gutters are what catch the precipitation that falls on your roof and directs it away from your home. If water is allowed to flow down the side of your house, it can seep in and severely compromise the integrity of your foundation. Keeping those gutters and downspouts cleared out will allow the water to flow right off your roof and away from your home. If you clear out your gutters at the beginning of the fall, be sure to check back at the end of fall if you have any trees nearby. Those leaves will clog up the works quickly!
