Winter is well upon us. With frigid temperatures showing no sign of rising any time soon, you will want to make sure that your home will be able to make it through the winter ahead. Just because spring and summer are when we end up doing most of our home improvement projects doesn’t mean that all stops in the winter time. There is still plenty to do!
Regularly Inspect Your Roof and Gutters
Your roof is your home’s main protection against the elements. Your gutters help your roof do its job. Both will need regular inspection and maintenance if they are to do their jobs well all winter long. Snow and ice are heavy and can do plenty of damage to your roof and its gutters. You should inspect both regularly and make any necessary repairs as soon as they are needed. If you’re unsure about anything, call Blair Construction and we will be sure that it will stand up to the rigors of winter.
Make Sure Your Home is Well Insulated
Your home, especially your plumbing needs to be well-insulated. The bitter cold will try and come into your home any way that it can. A well-insulated home will help to lower energy costs, and insulating your plumbing will help to protect your pipes so that they won’t freeze.
Seal Up All Openings
Part of insulating your home against the cold is making sure that even the smallest openings are sealed. Caulk around all of your windows and doors. If your windows tend to leak, install energy efficient windows that will protect from the cold. Make sure any areas where pipes and wiring enter or exit your home are properly sealed as well.
