Most homeowners don’t even use their garage for a vehicle any more. It’s just a place everyone stores the things that they either don’t want in the house or just don’t want to deal with. The same goes for homes that have a basement. If that’s what’s happened to your garage or basement, consider getting rid of that stuff or renting a storage unit and converting your garage or basement into something new. The possibilities are endless!
Mom Cave or Man Cave
Your “man cave” could be whatever you want it to be. If you’re a sports fan, bring in a big screen TV and add built-in speakers for the ultimate game day experience. Add plenty of shelving for all of your memorabilia and don’t forget to hang up all of those cool signed jerseys!
If you’re opting for a more relaxing “mom cave”, stick to design elements that are a bit more subdued. A nice cushy couch or daybed would work well if you plan to spend some time with a good book. If you prefer writing to reading, add a small desk. Want to unwind with your favorite adult beverage? Get a tea cart from an antique shop and add your favorite wine or liquor. Don’t forget a wine fridge to keep it chilled. You can complete the look by hanging relaxing prints or inspirational quotes and adding some pretty throw pillows.
Home Office
The ability to work from home can be very useful, especially if you own a business or are trying to start one. Having your own quiet work space could help your business tremendously. You can pick out every single thing you require in an office space in order to maximize productivity. Start with the desk. What shape and size do you want? Next, add any storage you will need for files and other necessary items. Make sure you add whatever you need to in order to make sure you have the strongest internet connection possible.
Guest Room
Probably one of the most common uses for a basement or garage conversion is a guest bedroom. Friends and loved ones can visit for however long they want without having to worry about a hotel. Or, if you have a gathering and your friend doesn’t feel comfortable driving home they can just stay the night.
Playroom for the Kids
Another common use for a conversion is a playroom. Adding a playroom to your home gives your kids a safe space to play and be kids. With a playroom, you won’t have to worry about tripping over toys everywhere or one of your kids getting into something they’re not supposed to. You can even put down cushioned flooring so your little ones won’t hurt themselves if they fall.
